# Raumo > Music, written as you listen. Evolving soundscapes composed on your iPhone, with a room of your own to shape. Raumo is an iPhone app that composes ambient music live on the device: soundscapes for sleep, focus, unwinding and daydreaming that are never the same twice. - Raumo is an iPhone app that composes ambient music live on the device while you listen. Each track is written once and never repeats. - The composition is rule-based and runs on the iPhone. Raumo uses no generative AI and no online inference, and its artwork is procedural, not photographs or AI imagery. - Its instruments are synthesised with ports of Mutable Instruments Elements and Plaits, alongside sampled instruments, licensed CC0 field recordings and recorded drum loops. - Raumo has 12 endless playlists (Drift, Flow, Unwind, Sleep, Daydream, Catalog, Nature, Binaural, Noise & Tape, Music & Nature, Haze, Handpan) and 96 authored soundscapes in 6 worlds (Hush, Flow, Clarity, Warmth, Glow, Orbit). - Four moods guide listening: Sleep, Focus, Unwind and Daydream. - Every sound sits in a spatial room around the listener, rendered with Apple’s HRTF spatial audio. Bringing a sound closer makes it louder; with headphones that report their movement, head tracking keeps the room in place. - Six Mood controls (Night, Wide, Song, Awake, Wind and Colour) and 5 Places (Glass chamber, Great hall, Stone church, Starry sky, Fog) shape the whole soundscape. - Nature recordings, white, pink and brown noise, tape textures and binaural tones are optional sounds of the room. Raumo makes no health, sleep or attention claims about any of them. - A sleep timer (15 to 90 minutes, or a custom length) brings a session to a gentle close, with a Live Activity on the Lock Screen and in the Dynamic Island. - Widgets, Control Center controls, Siri and Shortcuts can start Raumo without opening it. - Any track can be kept exactly as it played: Raumo stores its musical recipe and composes it again. - Listening works offline: the music is composed on the iPhone with sounds included in the app. Only iCloud sync of kept items and sharing a link go online. - There is no account, no advertising and no third-party analytics. What Raumo learns about your taste stays on your iPhone. - Raumo needs an iPhone with iOS 17 or later and is in English. - Raumo for iPhone is not yet on the App Store. Raumo makes no health claims: it does not promise better sleep, focus, relaxation or any effect of a sound or tone. ## Pages - [Raumo](https://raumo.app/): What Raumo is: generative ambient music composed live on your iPhone, the six worlds, the spatial room, recorded listening examples and privacy. - [Sleep](https://raumo.app/sleep): Slow, dark soundscapes for the night, the sleep timer, its Live Activity, the Fall asleep mood, Nature and Noise & Tape. - [Focus](https://raumo.app/focus): Steady music to work with: the Flow playlist, Noise & Tape, optional binaural tones, Focus filters and playing alongside other apps. - [Unwind](https://raumo.app/unwind): Soundscapes that loosen and settle: placing sounds around you, Places, Mood presets, Music & Nature and keeping a moment. - [Daydream](https://raumo.app/daydream): Wandering, open soundscapes: Drift, new variations, the Catalog playlist, the Engine view and Favorites. - [Soundscapes](https://raumo.app/soundscapes): All ninety-six authored soundscapes, by world and mood, with recorded examples. - [How it works](https://raumo.app/how-it-works): How Raumo composes on the iPhone: the composer, the instruments, the room, the six Mood controls, the five Places, and what Raumo never reads. - [What is generative music?](https://raumo.app/learn/generative-music): Generative music explained: rules versus recordings, why a loop is audible and a composing system is not, how Raumo writes harmony, melody, rhythm and form, and what “never the same twice” honestly means. - [Spatial audio and binaural tones](https://raumo.app/learn/spatial-audio): How spatial audio places sounds around a listener: HRTF, head tracking, distance as volume, and binaural tones described physically, without health claims. - [White, pink and brown noise](https://raumo.app/learn/noise-colours): White, pink and brown noise by spectrum: how each one’s power falls with frequency, how they sound, with recordings of each from Raumo’s audio engine. Raumo is an iPhone app that composes ambient music while you listen. Its soundscapes for sleep, focus, unwinding and daydreaming are written live on your iPhone, so no two plays are the same. Every sound has a place in a room around you. Bring one closer to hear it louder, choose a Place for the whole room, or shape its Mood. ### Is Raumo generative AI? No. Raumo’s composer follows musical rules: harmony, melody, rhythm and form are worked out on your iPhone as it plays. No AI model writes the music and nothing is generated online. The artwork is procedural, too. ### Does the music ever repeat? Each track is composed once, as you hear it. Ask for a new variation and the soundscape develops anew inside its own recognisable sound; Raumo checks that it differs from what came before. A moment you keep is the one exception: Raumo stores its musical recipe, so it can compose it again exactly as it played. ### Is the music prerecorded? Raumo composes its music as you listen. It plays it with synthesised and modelled instruments and recorded instrument samples. The Flow playlist adds recorded drum loops, and nature layers are field recordings released under CC0 1.0, a public domain dedication. The examples on this website are recordings of Raumo’s audio engine, so you can hear the app before trying it. They are labelled as recorded examples. ### How do I shape the room? Open the player and bring a sound closer to hear it louder, or place it farther away to hear it more quietly and at a distance. Use the plus button in the sound bar to add a sound. Tap a sound to choose how it plays, change its sound within the same family, or quiet or remove it. An original catalog mix becomes your editable room when you make your first change. You can return to the original mix from the player. ### What are Place and Mood? Place changes the acoustic space around the whole soundscape. Mood shapes its darkness, width, musical movement and colour. Their buttons sit beside the sound bar in the player. These changes belong to the whole room. A sound’s position is the way to change how close and loud that individual source feels. ### How does Drift work? Drift creates new soundscapes with their own musical character, sounds, names and procedural artwork. One transforms into the next as you listen. Flow, Unwind, Sleep, Daydream, Haze and Handpan each have a different musical character. Catalog is a separate playlist: it moves through Raumo’s authored soundscapes, composing a new performance of each one. Nature and Noise & Tape offer places and textures without music. ### Do I need headphones? You can listen on your iPhone’s speaker or with headphones. Headphones make the placement of sounds easier to hear. Binaural tones are best heard with headphones because they send a different tone to each ear. Optional head tracking uses compatible headphones that report their movement. Turn it on from the player’s menu and allow motion access if asked. You can continue listening without head tracking. ### Can I listen offline? The app composes on your iPhone and includes its sound sources, so listening does not require a music stream or online generation. The website’s recorded examples need to be loaded by your browser. ### Do I need an account? No. There is nothing to sign in to, no advertising and no third-party analytics. What Raumo learns about your taste stays on your iPhone; what you keep can sync through your own iCloud. ### Can I keep a room or a moment? Save an edited room with a name to return to it. To keep a particular performance, choose “Keep this moment” from the player’s menu. Your rooms and kept moments appear in Your Raumo. A kept moment stores the musical recipe rather than an audio file. Raumo composes it again when you return. If an engine update changes how that recipe is played, the app lets you know. ### What does Sleep mean? Sleep is a playlist of slow, dark soundscapes for the night. The player also has a sleep timer, including a custom duration, to bring a listening session to a gentle close. ### What do binaural tones and noise do? They are sounds to choose from: binaural tones send a slightly different tone to each ear, and white, pink and brown noise are steady textures. Raumo makes no promise about what any of them does to sleep, focus or mood. ### How do I clear my listening history? Open Your Raumo, then the Settings gear, and choose “Clear Listening History.” This clears recently played soundscapes, the listening behind your profile, your diary and the variations composed for you. Your favourites, saved rooms and moments you deliberately kept remain. You can remove those individually. ### Can I keep the website still? The website follows your device’s Reduce Motion setting. With it on, the animations stay still, and you can keep reading and listening. ### Which devices does Raumo need? Raumo is made for iPhone and needs iOS 17 or later. It is in English. ### Where can I get Raumo? Raumo for iPhone is not yet on the App Store. A download link will appear here once it is. ## Optional - [Mosaic (Hush), recorded example](https://raumo.app/media/hush.m4a): Muted tones, held close.
